Any Gary Stevenson fans here?

Personally I find him annoying but he is everywhere, ascribing every ill to wealth inequality. His YouTube videos now have millions of views. Are there any fans of Gary in this forum?

I listened to his book and I think it was entertaining.

What do you think of his economic theory?

Many of his observations align with real trends, whether all of his actual claims or predictions actually hold is something else. I further believe he doesn’t pay enough attention to supply-side constraints (housing supply, land registration), demographic changes, global trade, capital flows and technological disruptions.

What actually entertained me in the book was how he described the time he had on the trading floor and his whole story, although I find him somewhat self-righteous in the book.

Stevenson is a fantasist, grifter, and populist (left-wing-flavoured).

His economic claims are even more laughable than Le Pen’s “restore the Franc” dreams.

He seems to be right about a lot of things politically at least, wealth inequality is a disaster for the overall economy and leads to the rise in extremism that we are seeing right now.

I read the book (borrowed I wasn’t buying it). It was an OK read but theres dozens of traders out there who have done the same. Working at Citi (which I did for 2 decades as a trader) theres a huge franchise that you service and make money from. Some traders never took any risk at all, just juiced it and made millions.

What fascinates me is the gap between this book being published and the end of his career? Its years. But fair play he has self-promoted to Tharg and back and its paid off.

I’ve invited “JB” who appears in the book to the bubble. Inappropriate to share his actual name of course but hes a great guy and a very good trader. Known him for eons. He has a slightly different perspective.
