I’ve survived a few rounds of cuts myself, each over email. Can’t say its been a pleasant experience but at least its quick. If I were in the office when they were announced, though, there could be more questions and outrage over it.
I feel like getting cut over zoom is the worst of both worlds, its drawn out and you can’t do anything. it’s basically this:
If it was going to happen, then I personally would prefer via email. In person means skyrocketing awkwardness and having strong control over emotions when faced with a life altering event (in most cases).
How the hell can they fire via email? Is that even legal? Definitely via Zoom, if you are at home. You say goodbye, shut off the computer, and it’s done.
There was a pretty viral thing a while back about a startup that cut 80% of its staff over slack pretty much on a whim because the founder got mad about not enough people being in. I imagine email cuts might happen in smaller companies but its a legal nightmare for big ones
Most companies still have the old ways of calling on the phone or in person.
When you’re a contractor working remotely and the project is completed, we conduct a zoom call, for start and ending the job. Ponder what I’m conveying to you! Keep in mind the changing ways that HR is working with employee’s some people are being rehired via zoom.
