I’ve flagged that I want the first week of October off, but given two resignations on the team (both returning to home countries, both fed up with new “racism” in the UK), I can see myself being asked to delay given that we have a lot on. I intend to take anyway, but then things will fall apart. Pride in job vs burnout. It’s irritating to be in this position
this is a common issue because companies have been in recession style hiring it seems for a number of years now…quality will be an issue for many big companies who are understaffed.
I have experienced these types of staffing limitations when applicable to taking time off.
Most are from requesting a holiday off or traveling out of state thanksgiving, and christmas.
Applying the referenced comment to lean staff we need to add employees to the team even if they’re here on a temporary basics during peak times yearly I used some employees to cover vacation request. I know how it feels we all need time for ourselves and family.
Yup, I know the feeling. It’s quite annoying, that you’re so limited in options to take off. In my team, which is spread over 3 jurisdictions, this is also always an issue and there are even colleagues who start asking for time off, a year ahead (usually the ones with kids in school) and others who barely get time to schedule themselves and always end up taking time off in autumn, because before the year is ending the bank is forcing them to take off.
I find this very annoying and think that will not get any better in the future, because teams will stay “lean” (love the business lingo for understaffed), while coverage is needed and the bank is shouting at you to take time off and especially also a “relevant block leave”, but actually doesn’t really allow people to be off at the same time
