Lucky enough to have had some interviews recently, all of which were a pretty paint-by-numbers breakdown of my resume.
I do some mountain climbing in my spare time, which I put right at the end. The interviewer at one firm seemed fascinated and we spent a lot of the interview talking about that.
I’m wondering… what other unusual things have been brought up in other people’s job interviews, past or present. Is it worth including your most niche hobbies or did I just get really lucky with my interviewer
fitness enthusiast and vintage cars restoration are a few hobbies that I fancy. I caught off guard a recruiter who had an interest in interviewing me for a recent role. Often times it seems like exchanging pleasant tidbits of information to establish a rapport it can be a conversation starter or rememberable attribute of added excitement both in attracting candidates that are socially expressive and have intelligence, with qualifications to be a part of the company that could be in line with the culture, wellness programs and much more!
I’ve had surprising and obscure connections mentioned on interviews such as ‘my godson works at x company on your cv, he says it’s like xxxx, was that your experience too?’ So definitely relevant to the interview.
I have also had directors state that putting hobbies on my cv actually helped shortlist me as I was more interesting than the other candidates.
“Oh, I didn’t know your dad was an MD here!”
“Oh, I didn’t know your uncle was an partner here!”
“Oh, I didn’t know your grandad founded this company!”
Etc.

Average Parisian banker who "has family” in Deauville lmao
Once I went to an interview and the interviewer and I had a 20 minute chat about one of my tattoos (long story - car-related). I left thinking I had it in the bag and they said they were moving forward with other candidates…
