Feeling totally stuck in my role

I’ve been at my job for about four years now. It’s not one of the biggest names, but I’ve learned a lot from it and really feel like I’m at the stage where I can step up to a new opportunity… nothing seems to be out there.

Any application I send gets an automated response, even ones that I feel like I’m really a good fit for. I try my best to optimise my CV, I’ve got some pretty impressive metrics that I feel like a human recruiter would take notice of, and yet, it feels like nobody I apply for will even look at me.

I understand that it’s a difficult job market and that there’s plenty of top applicants out there but if I can’t even make it to a screening call for jobs where I’m arguably overqualified, I just don’t understand the point of it all.

Sounds bleakly familiar I’m afraid

Unfortunately this is the climate now. Try adding skills. Try going deeper into your current job. Start a plant club. Bring stick insects into the office as a talking point so that you can meet new teams and move sideways. Etc.

It could be worse, it could be raining you could be without a job.
I know, it’s a poor consolation but it’s a really difficult moment.

TBH it feels more and more in this world that either you have the gumption to do things for yourself, or you live and die in shackles.

I spent my energy trying to be someone else’s slave. I’m sick of begging to be, lol.

Whatever I do next, I do it for myself, no matter the cost.

Felt like that three years ago….

Thought hard about what I‘m really good at and who would buy my services from me as a person rather than the institution I‘m working for.

Then I left Banking and started my own advisory firm.

Guess what, it works!
