What does everyone think of this? Seems like it will increase competition for jobs in London from my perspective, but maybe I am being horribly narrow minded

The UK desperately needs tax revenues. A £125,000 income=£42k of income tax. The British government is going to admit as many of these people as possible and will not care about your self-regarding concern about competition for you job. Sorry to break this gently

The issue is whether anyone at that level even wants to come to live in the UK as it’s not as attractive anymore in terms of quality of life, irrespective on how long it takes to grant citizenship.

Settle in the UK and you will get taxed heavily on income and soon taxed heavily on wealth. There are more appealing places to be now

Being at the mercy of the CCP seems a bad long-term deal though.
Surely better be somewhere beautiful, with a stable enough economy/currency. Brazil and Uruguay come to mind

We know the competition for top-tier talent is fierce. While the UK must offer accelerated residency to attract elite global talent and maximize tax revenue, a truly balanced immigration system must also value the essential social contributions of healthcare workers and teachers that salary alone cannot measure.
Also the government must ensure this “earned settlement” model doesn’t undermine family unity by creating unrealistic financial barriers for spouses and partners settlements, which would unfairly penalize both the healthcare sector and the stability of British households.
