What’s your “speaking up” culture like?
In the “biggest bank” is absolutely ridiculous.
This is a reverse psychology trick: “don’t you dare to say sth is wrong, or you will be next on the list for reduction”.
Even if you just like to do your job and go home, need to Speak up and brag about what all things you have done . speaking up == you are actively contributing . sigh
Welcome to the world
Go along to get along is the mantra at many of the global banks this to enhance the empire build efforts also in place.
My boss’s boss’s boss had one-on-one conversations with each of us minions, every 3 months. He always insisted that he wanted people to openly speak up about issues in the workplace. I knew he didn’t really mean it, or better, I knew that what I had to say would imply criticising my line manager, so I always said: all is well.
“Speaking up” is a hilariously obvious test, and if you fail it, you deserve what happens to you
Same as those “anonymous” surveys that they ask you to fill out…
Love those anonymous surveys. Fully anonymous, but the link is personalized ![]()
Never to be trusted.
If it’s something your manager can handle without going via HR … generally it’s very good.
The stuff that needs to go to HR … in the cases I’ve seen it’s taken seriously and there is understanding that it’s not the person raising it fault. But .. it does generate a smell which seems to follow people around
Speaking up, not speaking out
