There are no distant shores now. It is all one homogeneous continuum of debt and supermarkets

The “smartest” people i met in finance worked (or were aiming to work) at places like Jane Street but generally the most well-rounded individuals gravitate to the top of fields like IB, PE, Law, Consulting;

Jane Street’s likeability floor is a lot higher than a place like GS, but its ceiling is also comparably lower i think

I mostly agree with this actually. I could imagine a lot of MDs as Prime Ministers or Presidents, but I’ve never ever met a quant who should be anything but a public sector accountant at best
