efinancialcareers is always a blast to read, but I have to think these articles mentioning ‘rising stars’ and ‘rumors inside of this guys pod‘ all have to be self sourced … right? in academia (theoretical physics) - this kind of self promotion was looked down upon, does it actually help here? (disclosure: I am a quant and asking out of genuine curiosity)

We don’t often write about pods blowing up but we do write about people leaving funds (sometimes a proxy for pods blowing up). We don’t often write about rising stars (some places produce long lists with this title) but if we do it’s not based on their own self-described attributes but conversations with colleagues and headhunters. Necessarily subjective
