Burned several times by spray specialists and people claiming to have connections they don’t.
The key seems to be finding out exactly who they’ve placed and where in the past six months but they don’t like to divulge this.
- I wait for them to approach me
- I ignore their calls
- I ask them to email me
- They do not
- I stay in the same job
- ???
- Send help
Maybe folks could share recruiters who did right by them? No use gatekeeping the folks who got you the job.
There’s a reason we call them slave traders (for full time) and pimps (for contractors).
Using them from both sides - they lie.
Especially for junior roles, if I’m seeing a candidate face to face I’ll show them the CV I was sent and ask them if it’s theres.
They are a necessary evil; I don’t think any are better than any others. They naturally have a massive conflict of interest. Just go into the process with your eyes open.
The language of truth
Sounds harsh. Some are very good and good people who like helping to find the right roles
I always employ Groucho Marx logic when recruiters approach me: “I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member.”
Easiest method is to look at their commendations on LinkedIn. Look at who has shouted them out, and when.
If you see someone write a paragraph about how helpful that recruiter was, then you look on their profile and see they moved to a big hedge fund or something around the same time, you might be in business.
I have a rule that if they reach out to me 3 times then I will respond. Then I give an ask or a request ‘could you comment on my resume’ or ‘looking for a strong mentor with a track record of producing stars, not too interested in fielding anything else’ - if they respond with detailed feedback and put in the work, then I work with them. Some people are hungrier than others, and Im much more interested in working with someone who introduces themselves through demonstrating value
Keep seeing a lot of recruiters complaining about everything these days, but in the end you’re a commodity for that job, never liked the way they refuse to give you a number to try and increase their fee, just have a network and let them come to you, ask what the recruitment end to end timeline is, double it and then move on.
What do people think about recruiters that moonlight as influencers on LinkedIn? Sometimes it feels like they’re coming up with any random bit of ‘insight’ they can drum up.
Others do seem to post interesting stuff, but i wonder what their performance is like as a recruiter if they can afford to waste time posting on there.
Influencing on LinkedIn is an oxymoron. All who claim to do it are to be avoided
Call me an Oxymoron the way I be a moron on Oxy

Brilliant observation man
Thank you. Mais de rien/
I detect that you may be French
Exactly & naturellement /
If the recruiter is interviewing you, you are doing it wrong. You need to be interviewing the recruiter
